Retreats for Birth Mothers After Making an Adoption Plan for Their Child

It is our hope that we create a positive and supportive retreat that meets the need, in some way, of every birth mother that attends. From our experience, the support network retreats provide is a huge benefit to birth mothers. We have heard from several birth mothers that these retreats were more helpful for them than any counseling they had received.

The program emphasizes providing you with valuable tools to help you continue growing as a person and cope with your adoption plan in a positive way. Birth mothers who have worked with any agency or attorney are encouraged to attend. Wherever you are in your journey, you are not alone here!

Retreats are offered 3 times a year at no cost for you

* It is our philosophy that birth mothers do not have to pay to attend. Caring for Kids desires our retreat to be accessible to all birthmothers who have made an adoption plan.

Birth Mother Retreat Registration

By Birth Mothers, For Birth Mothers

Our retreat encourages the building of a support network and resources among those who attend. Not only is the retreat for birth mothers, but it was also designed and is facilitated by birthmothers as well.

Anna, Caroline, and Lauren work their hardest to ensure the retreat is a safe, welcoming environment where you will have the opportunity to express your thoughts and concerns with other birthmothers, so you can explore your adoption journey without fear of judgment.

Anna Allen, MSW, LSW

Anna is a birthmother who made an adoption plan in 2004 and is an international adoptee. Her adoption is closed and she is not (yet) in reunion with her daughter. Anna enjoys being able to share from her own experience the unique perspective of being both an adoptee and birthparent. Anna has worked for CFK as a Birth Parent Counselor since 2018.

Caroline McDermott-Ritenour

Caroline is the birthmother of Abby, whom she made an open adoption plan in 2012. Caroline is a swim coach and teacher and enjoys helping others learn and grow.

Lauren Bujorian

Lauren is the birthmother of Miles, whom she made an open adoption plan for in 2013. Lauren is also an adoptee in reunion with her birth family.

A Note From Our Facilitators

“These services were created to help you gain the support you need post-placement. As birth mothers ourselves, we understand the grief you may be experiencing. We know what it’s like to feel alone and misunderstood.

You are not alone here; we get it!

Adoption is a life-long decision and that decision deserves life-long support! Our post-placement services encourage the building of a support network and resources among those who participate.”

We welcome your questions!  Please feel free to call or email Anna Allen at Anna@cfkadopt.org or Jill Davies at jill@cfkadopt.org.
