Birth Parent Counselor
Summary and Primary Responsibilities
The Birth Parent Counselor is an adoption assessor who works with all members of the adoption triad, providing options and grief counseling to birthparents, permanency planning for infants, as well as adoptive placement coordination and support to prospective adoptive parents. Counselors will engage and empower their clients, as well as counsel, support and educate. A Birth Parent Counselor conducts outreach to high schools, pregnancy centers as well as hospitals throughout Ohio on the topics of options counseling and adoption.
This job requires licensure in the State of Ohio (LSW, LISW, LPC, LPCC, equivalent or higher)
Qualifications
- Licensed by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board (LSW, LISW, LPC, LPCC, equivalent or higher)
- Completion of State of Ohio Tier 1 and Tier 2 Adoption Assessor Training (if not current, must obtain within 6 months of hire).
- Notary Public (if not presently a Notary, must obtain within 90 days of hire).
- Valid driver’s license and car insurance as well as a reliable vehicle with valid registration.
Knowledge and Skill Required

Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Recruiter
Caring for Kids, Inc. (foster care and adoption agency) is currently seeking a passionate and dedicated full-time social worker to become part of our Wendy’s Wonderful Kids team. This child focused recruiter serves children in the custody of Cuyahoga county, and strive to find adoptive families for older and hard to place youth.
Job Type: Full Time (40 hours/week)
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Thorough case record review
- Meet with the youth monthly, at a minimum, to develop trust and build rapport
- Build a support network for the youth by meeting with significant adults and maintaining regular ongoing contact with past connections such as siblings, caregivers, relatives, professionals, and others important to the child
- Identification of interested individuals and potential permanency connections through a diligent search
- Customize recruitment activities
- Provide ongoing assessment of child’s readiness for adoption and preparation needs
- Child preparation for specific placement and family education regarding child’s needs
- Planning for post-placement services and support
- Attend regular agency meetings and events as requested
- Attend educational opportunities provided by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher is required
- Experience in child welfare, foster care or adoption is required. At least three years of experience in one of those areas is preferred
- Licensure in the State of Ohio is preferred (LSW, LISW, LPC, LPCC or equivalent).
- Tier I and Tier II adoption assessor training is preferred
Performance/Physical Requirements
- Work is performed from home, at county buildings, and in the community, and involves frequently driving to meetings and visits with youth.
- Attention to detail and confidentiality required.

Clinical Case Manager (Akron)
Summary and Primary Responsibilities
Caring for Kids’ Clinical Case Managers provide case management, parent coaching, and behavioral health services to foster, foster to adopt, and public adoption placements.
- Provide CPST and counseling services to foster children identified as a “specialized” or “treatment” level on the referral and ICCA as well as those in pre- and post-adoptive placements.
- Completion of Diagnostic Assessments, Individualized Service/Treatment Plans and corresponding documentation as applicable and appropriate.
- Work in conjunction with a multidisciplinary team. Advocate on behalf of clients, including assessing needs and linking to services using contacts with community agencies, monitoring access to those services, and maintaining confidentiality.
- Coordinate services for clients in accordance with service description, contract requirements of the custodial county, and accreditation standards.
- Face-to-face contact with clients, including required home visits with clients to assure child safety.
- Assist foster families in the adjustment of a new foster child placement in their home and with ongoing support services throughout placement.
- Provide consultation and collaboration with foster and adoptive parents on identifying problem areas, developing plans for addressing those problems in order to minimize the risk of placement disruption.
- Utilize and educate connected parenting approaches with families. Provide ongoing training in order to continue to develop the skill level of foster and adoptive parents.
- Provide on call support and crisis intervention to foster families as required.
- Participate in team decision-making meetings regarding the child’s development, progress, and permanency planning.
- Complete reports and documentation within the time frames specified according to foster care contract requirements and the agency’s accreditation standards.
- Report to supervisor and county any incidents that jeopardize the health and safety of children.
- Weekly group supervision and bi-weekly individual supervision, with additional support as needed.
- Follow guidelines of social work or counselor code of ethics.
- Follow all policies and procedures established by Caring for Kids, Inc. Perform other case management duties that support the mission of the agency.

Contracted assessors will also complete homestudy updates, amendments, and attend finalization hearings for adoptions per Ohio Rule. The Assessor writes a home study based on family paperwork and personal home visits and interviews. After a placement occurs, this same social worker would be asked to complete post placement supervision with the family; this typically includes 6-8 home visits and reports.
Qualifications
