Jill has worked in the child welfare field for over 20 years, beginning her career investigating child abuse and neglect for the Child Welfare System. She later began working in the area of public and private adoption and has continued to work in this field for the past 13 years.

Jill, an Ohio adoption assessor, currently oversees the Birth Parent Services Program and the Domestic Public Adoption Program at Caring for Kids. Jill has dedicated her career to child welfare and believes that not only does every child deserve a family, but that there is a family for every child.

Ashley Berdine, MSSA, LISW-S

Ashley has worked in child welfare for over ten years since graduating from Case Western Reserve University’s Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences with a Master of Science in Social Administration. She has professional experience as a child-centered recruiter, a foster care case manager, in behavioral health, and working with children with special needs. In addition to her professional experience in foster care and adoption, Ashley is a foster and adoptive parent who has personally navigated the system. As a result, Ashley is a strong advocate for children and families involved in the child welfare system and is passionate about obtaining needed services to provide the best outcome for those she serves.

Erin King, LISW

Erin earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from The University of Akron in December 2009, after completing her internship here at Caring for Kids. She began her social work career as a contracted Adoption Assessor completing homestudies and post placement work with Caring for Kids while working full time as a Case Manager for a Therapeutic Foster Care Network in Tallmadge, Ohio. She continued her education to earn her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Akron in May 2011.

Erin joined the Caring for Kids team full time in May 2013 as part of the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids program. She transitioned into the position of Birth Parent Counselor in 2015. Erin has a passion for working with children and families and loves working with prospective birth families and prospective adoptive families.

Renee Baker, LSW

Renee Baker, LSW

Renee has been involved in the field of child welfare for 28 years. She began her social work career working as a Protective Services caseworker for a local public agency. A few years later she was hired as an Adoption Social Worker with the same agency, advocating for permanency for youth in foster care. She later became employed as an Adoption Assessor for a private international adoption agency where she eventually served as the Social Service Administrator and then the Ohio Program Administrator for many years.

Renee holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Baldwin-Wallace College. She is a Licensed Social Worker and a Certified Adoption Assessor. Renee joined Caring for Kids in 2015, and is currently the Supervisor for the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids program. She is passionate about finding long term connections and permanency for youth and is excited to be a member of the WWK team!

Cassie Shreve, CPA

Cassie Shreve, CPA

Cassie earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from The University of Akron in May 2010. She went on to pass the CPA exam by December 2010 and was officially licensed a Certified Public Accountant in 2012. Cassie joined Caring for Kids as the Controller in May 2019. She has been involved with Caring for Kids since 2012 as a financial donor and participant in various activities and later joined Caring for Kids’ Board of Directors in 2017.

Cassie is married and has one child. She enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends.

Sarah Bozsik, LISW-S

Sarah Bozsik, LISW-S

Sarah joined Caring for Kids in June of 2011 as a Birth Parent Counselor after completing her Master’s Degree in Social Work at The University of Akron. In her role as program coordinator, her goal is to help everyone feel supported in their adoption journey. Sarah enjoys working closely with and providing support to everyone involved in the adoption process. She is passionate about ensuring that any plan put in place is, above all else, what is best for the child. Sarah is grateful to be involved with this loving decision.

Sarah is married and has two children. Adoption is part of her life outside of work as many family members and friends have built or grown their families by opening their hearts and homes to adoption and foster care.

Ben Thompson

Ben Thompson

Ben took an unconventional route into Caring For Kids and the world of adoption and foster care. An ordained pastor, Ben joined the CFK team after 15 years in church ministry.

Ben served as the chairman of the board for the Foster Care advocacy and support group, Fostering Love from 2018-2020 and has helped a number of people begin their journey into Foster Care and Adoption and helped provide ongoing support for them as they've continued the journey.

As a birth dad who placed a child for adoption in high school, and as a transracial foster and adoptive parent to his son, Ben possesses a unique blend of personal experience and passion for helping children find safe and caring environments for nurture, growth and success. He is married with three children and lives in Columbus.

Andrea Rubinstein, MSA, LSW

Andrea holds a Master’s Degree in Administration and has worked in the field of child welfare and adoption since 1992. She is a licensed social worker and Ohio adoption assessor.

Andrea works with and counsels expectant expectant parents considering placing their child for adoption and with couples considering growing their families through adoption.

Andrea’s responsibilities include overseeing the day-to-day operations of Caring for Kids’ Columbus office, conducting home studies, as well as providing post-placement services for adoptive families and post-adoption counseling for expectant parents. She is married and has two children.

Kayla Duhme

Kayla Duhme graduated in 2017 with her Bachelors in Social Work and Sociology from the University of Akron. She has worked with families through home visiting, educating on child development, and fostering parent child relationships. Kayla also has experience with housing those who are experiencing homelessness. She has a passion for making long lasting connections with people and working with children age 0-5.

Kayla is married with four Dachshunds who are her pride and joy. She considers herself a foodie, enjoys camping, singing, and spending time with family. She also has a very unique last name which is pronounced Doom!

Haley Bruck, LSW

Haley completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Kent State University in 2015 and started her career working in Children's Services. Haley worked in this field for 8.5 years and during this time, earned a Masters of Social Work degree from Case Western Reserve University in 2020. While employed with Children's Services, Haley completed child abuse investigations and then helped create and later oversee the Child Advocacy Center. Haley has a passion for helping families in all walks of life. Haley is married and has two children who she enjoys camping and being outdoors with. Haley loves spending time with her extended family members and friends, watching her kiddos learn and grow with their cousins and friends.

Matthew Snider, BA

Matthew graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice Studies. Matthew has spent the greater part of his professional life dedicated to improving the lives of young people through coaching, education, and case work.

Most recently Matthew did ongoing casework in Franklin County for over three years bringing stability, safety, and permanency to children and families in Franklin County.

Matthew believes that every child deserves stability, love, and a forever family. Matthew Is dedicated to working towards the goal of adoption for every child, regardless of their story.

Lydia Lyons, LSW

Lydia Lyons, LSW

Lydia graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1992 with a Bachelors of Science in Social Work. She joined Caring For Kids in August 2014 to be a Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Recruiter for children in Summit County Children Services’ Custody.

Lydia worked in child welfare for almost 10 years, with 5 years in the post adoption unit. She wrote a quarterly newsletter and ran a support group for adoptive families and aided families in applying for post adoption subsidy. She has also worked as an assessor for an international adoption agency, and had the opportunity to travel to South Korea to bring home children for families in which she completed their home study.

She believes every child deserves to have a forever family and will work hard for every child on her case load.

Kristin Jordan, LSW

Kristin Jordan, LSW

Kristin graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Akron in 1995. She completed her Ohio adoption assessor training in 2009. Kristin has worked in various social work fields throughout her career. She was a home shelter case manager, school social worker for Akron Public Schools, parenting class instructor, family search and engagement worker, and an information and referral specialist.

Kristin joined Caring for Kids in 2011 as an adoption assessor and began her role as a Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Recruiter in August 2012. In October of 2022, she moved into the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Supervisor position.

Being adopted herself along with several of her siblings, Kristin is a strong advocate of adoption. She also has experience with multi-racial adoptions being raised in a racially diverse family herself.

Stephanie Novak, LPC

Stephanie joined the Caring For Kids team in 2012 as a Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Adoption Recruiter. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Master’s degree in Counseling from Cleveland State University. Stephanie began her social work career as a case worker in child welfare and then moved on to adoption work. She realized adoption social work was her passion and decided to pursue that career again after time off to raise her own young children.

Stephanie works with children who are at risk of aging out of the foster care system and are in need of a permanent family. She loves her role as advocate for children and is motivated by her belief that every child deserves a loving, committed family to grow up in.

Denise Barczyk, LSW

Denise graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work. Denise is a Licensed Social Worker, and Ohio Adoption Assessor.

Denise has experience in Child Centered Recruitment, Child Protection, Early Intervention, and Partial Hospitalization groups in a residential setting, along with training residential staff. Denise enjoys being active in her community and volunteering.

Denise joined Caring for Kids as a Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Recruiter in July 2013. The Wendy’s Wonderful Kids belief that “unadoptable is unacceptable” is at the heart of all Denise does. She feels that each and every child deserves a forever family.

Gina Holderbaum, LSW

Gina graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Social Work in 1986 from the University of Akron. She worked over 23 years in child welfare, first as a Protective Services worker, then for 14 years as an adoption worker. She was also the children services liaison on the Sexual Abuse Collaboration Team for the county.

Gina retired in 2017, but she still had the desire to help older children find families who are in the foster care system, so she joined Caring for Kids in January 2018 as a Wendy’s Wonderful Kid’s Recruiter. She loves her role of being a strong advocate for children who are at risk of aging out of the system without a permanent plan. She feels that children are never too old for a family to call their own.

Jon graduated from Baldwin Wallace University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2012. Shortly after graduation, Jon worked at a residential treatment center for children and teens with behavioral issues. Jon has over 5 years of experience in working with developmentally disabled teens in a direct care capacity and over 2 years of experience as a case manager for the same agency. Jon has experience in Trauma Informed Care and teaching children to identify and utilize their coping skills. After 7 years in residential, Jon joined the Caring For Kids team in March 2020.

Jon firmly believes that every child deserves a forever home and the opportunity to reach their full potential. Jon is committed to assisting children in establishing permanent connections and is excited to work on behalf of an organization that truly believes “unadoptable is unacceptable.”

Laura Merklin, MSW, LSW

Laura earned her Bachelor of Science in Organizational Communication in 2008 from Ohio University, and her Master’s in Social Work from The Ohio State University in 2010. After completing her graduate program Laura worked as the Youth, Teen, and Family Director at a Jewish Community Center in York, Pennsylvania. Laura supervised the after school program, directly worked with children during summer camp, planned holiday celebrations, and was the youth group advisor. Laura joined the Caring for Kids team in January 2015 as part of the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids recruiter program. Kirstie graduated from Kent State University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies. After graduating from Kent State University, Kirstie worked at a community based mental health agency as a community and school-based case manager and Hospital liaison. Kirstie then went on to Child Welfare working at a local public welfare agency for over five years as an Investigation Caseworker, New Hire Trainer, and Ongoing Caseworker. Kirstie enjoys working with preteens and teenage youth.

Kirstie joined the Caring for Kids team in 2021 as a Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Recruiter. Kirstie is thankful to have the opportunity to help find adoptive homes and permanency for the youth in the program. Kirstie believes every child deserves a “forever family”.

Caroline joined the Caring for Kids team in 2021 as a Wendy's Wonderful Kids Adoption Recruiter. Caroline graduated from Cleveland State University with a Bachelors of Social Work in 2018. Caroline previously worked with Cuyahoga County Division of Children and Family services as an Extended Services Protection Specialist. While working with teens and youth, Caroline's passion of working with individuals in the foster care to find them Life Long Connections. Caroline found joy in working with the youth, which brought her to work for Caring for Kids as a Wendy's Wonderful Kids Recruiter. Caroline is excited to be able to be a part of the process of finding the children a family that works for their individual needs and wants. Caroline is looking forward to finding them permanent homes, because no child should ever be referred to as unadoptable, their home has just not yet been found.

Tyler Gilmore

Tyler Gilmore

Tyler graduated from Baldwin Wallace University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. He quickly developed a passion for working with youth and felt a calling to help others in need. Following graduation, Tyler worked for five years with children in residential, two years as a Treatment Specialist then was promoted to a Program Manager on a unit for individuals with developmental disabilities. Then, for three years he worked as Program Manager for an intensive treatment unit for teenage boys with severe mental health and behavioral issues.

Throughout his work experience, Tyler grew a deep interest in the adoption process as the joy he felt witnessing his clients find their forever home was immeasurable. He is elated to have found an organization in which he can be a part of that process as Tyler believes that everyone deserves to feel loved and a part of a family.

Kendal Wonacott

Kendal graduated from The Ohio State University in 2016 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Social Work. She immediately began employment with Franklin County Children Services as an ongoing caseworker working towards reunification and securing permanency for youth, through safe and stable homes. Kendal obtained her social work license in 2017. She transitioned into the role of a child protective supervisor in 2019, where she supervised a team of ongoing caseworkers. Kendal joined Caring for Kids in 2022 as a Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Adoption Recruiter. Kendal is excited for the opportunity to continue to work with youth, and advocate for those whose voices are not always heard. No child should ever be considered unadoptable, their forever home has just not yet been found.

Samantha Shields

Samantha graduated Kent State University in 2015 with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies. Right after graduation, she jumped into working with children at various Cleveland area head start centers. After working with infants and preschoolers, Samantha began her child welfare career in 2018. Samantha worked in assessment and voluntary ongoing services at two local child welfare agencies here in Northeast Ohio. Samantha enjoyed preserving families and ensuring all children were safe. In 2022, Samantha was hired at CFK as a WWK Recruiter and is eager to impact the lives of the children served by CFK.

Amanda Snider

Amanda graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice in 2001. Following graduation, Amanda was employed by Lorain County Domestic Relations Court as a Juvenile Probation Officer, for over seventeen years. Amanda supervised juveniles who obtained felony and misdemeanor charges. Amanda’s last five years with Lorain County were spent supervising children who were placed into a residential foster care setting through the Court. With experience in child welfare, Amanda was employed with Portage County Job and Family Services for almost three years as an Assessment worker and a New Hire Trainer. Amanda’s passion is working with high-risk juveniles. Amanda joined the Caring for Kids team in 2022 as a Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Recruiter. Amanda is excited for this opportunity and wants to make a difference in the lives of children.

After finishing school, Melissa started with Cuyahoga County Department of Children and Family Services where she worked as an Extended Services Worker. After graduating, she started working at Portage County Job & Family Services as an ongoing caseworker and facilitated family team meetings. Monique worked in public child welfare for over three years before joining Caring for Kids in 2022 as a Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Recruiter. Monique is grateful for the opportunity to work with children and families to promote ongoing stability and permanency. Amy Woodside

Amy Woodside

Amy graduated from Ohio University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Services. After Amy graduated she worked as a family support specialist with a Community Action Head Start working with at risk youth and their families. Amy then went on to work with the County Board of Developmental Disabilities working with families in the birth to five population. During this time Amy became a licensed foster to adopt parent for a local public child welfare agency. Amy is an adoptive parent of two children. Amy went on to work as an Adoption Assessor and Adoption Caseworker for a local Public Children Services Board. Amy enjoyed working, supporting and making connections to foster to adopt families.
Amy joined Caring for Kids as a Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Recruiter in January 2023. Amy looks forward to building trust and connections to children and families she serves. Amy shares the same belief as Wendy’s Wonderful Kids that “every child is adoptable”. Amy is passionate about working with youth to identify supports and connections that can lead to permanency.

Trent Ashworth

Trent Ashworth

Trent attended Wright State University, where he received a B.A. in Psychology. During his college years, he began working with youth through summer camps and a child development center on campus; which solidified in his mind that he wanted to pursue a career working with youth and families. Since then, Trent has gained professional experience in therapeutic mentoring, youth program development, and the child welfare systems of various states.

Trent is also an adoptive parent to his vibrant, adventure-loving, and caring daughter. Together, they enjoy hiking, performing karaoke concerts at home, and playing board games. Trent believes that play is essential to all humans, regardless of age, and loves to play games. Find him on a playground playing Four Square or shooting some hoops!

Trent joined Caring For Kids as a WWK Recruiter in May 2023. He holds tremendous value for the importance of trusting relationships and is eager to play a role in connecting youth and families to one another. He firmly believes that every child deserves the love and support required to become who they want to be, and he looks forward to identifying adults who are driven to make the difference.

Emily Graduated from Walsh University with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with Family Studies in 2018. Emily then dove into child welfare as an Extended Service Worker for Cuyahoga County Children and Family Services for three and a half years. Emily enjoyed building rapport with the children and advocating for their best interests. As an Extended Service Worker, Emily also worked on adoption cases and understands the importance of stability for children in care. Emily took a break from Child welfare but quickly missed working with children. Emily joined CFK as a Wendy’s Wonderful Kids recruiter in 2023, and is excited to continue being a safe person for the youth she works with. Emily is dedicated to advocating for her youth and finding the perfect forever home for children in care.

Michelle Miller

Michelle Miller

Michelle graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Mt. Vernon Nazarene University in 2010.

The majority of her professional experience has been with a private nonprofit. She was there for 10 years as part of the licensing team and her focus was on foster parent recruitment & retention. During this time, Michelle became a strong advocate in keeping siblings together and maintaining their bond.

Michelle has a passion for helping youth realize they have the power to determine their future regardless of their past and circumstances in which they had no control over. She believes every child deserves love, support and an advocate to help them find their voice and to empower them to reach their full potential.

Bob Toth

Bob Toth

Bob graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Sociology in 2004. Following graduation, he worked for several years in direct care in a variety of programs at a residential treatment center with children ages 6-18. With a desire to provide greater support to the children and programming, he moved into program management and was responsible for facilitating the daily operation of several homes for those children for 13 years. He also spent more than two years providing case management to children for the same agency.

Bob is trained in Trauma Informed Care, PAARR, and Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR. He has experience facilitating Partial Hospitalization/Day Treatment groups; teaching children life, independent living, and social skills; and directing meetings and trainings for the staff.

Bob joined Caring For Kids in May of 2024 as a Wendy's Wonderful Kids recruiter. He enjoys building rapport with the children and serving as a support and advocate for them. He believes that every child deserves a safe and loving permanent family.

Gabrielle Uhrin

Gabrielle Uhrin

Gabrielle graduated from John Carroll University in 2016 with a bachelor’s in children and family psychology. Gabrielle knew from a very early age that working with children and teenagers is something that she always wanted to pursue as a career. After graduating college Gabrielle continued working as a nanny for a close family until she moved on to working with Cuyahoga County Children and Family Services as a Child Protection Specialist is 2018. There, Gabrielle found her passion for foster children and the role one can play in their lives with consistency and genuine care. She enjoyed being that person that children could turn to for help, to ask for advice, and to look to. Gabrielle took her relationship with the children on her caseload very seriously. She took pride in knowing that she can communicate with them and understand them on a level that makes them feel seen and heard. Gabrielle, then, took a break from child welfare and joined the restaurant business in 2022 for a different scenery thinking that, maybe, child welfare was not meant for her. It was soon shown to her that her passion for foster kids is the path that she is meant to be on. Thus, bringing Gabrielle to join Caring for Kids in 2024. Gabrielle appreciates the opportunity she gets to be an impact on kids' lives again. She is passionate about being an advocate for them and being the person to help find ‘forever families’ for children. One fun fact about Gabrielle is that she was adopted by her father after he married her birth mother. Gabrielle is thankful that she has that background to bring to her role as a recruiter for Wendy’s Wonderful Kids.

Alexa Carrero

Alexa graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2021 with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. She began her career as an intake caseworker and visitation specialist with a local Children Services agency. Now working as an adoption recruiter, she is driven by her belief that all children deserve a happy, healthy, and safe home. Alexa is dedicated to offering comfort and support to families and children in need, striving to make a positive impact in their lives. In her free time, she enjoys being outdoors and spending time with her pets.

Kelli Badalich

Kelli earned her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Criminal Justice from the University of Akron in 2020. After graduating, Kelli worked as a paralegal at a law firm as she had the intention of going to law school. She quickly realized that path was not for her and began working at Summit County Children Services in 2022 as an intake caseworker and later as an ongoing caseworker. Kelli enjoyed working with families and partnering with various organizations in the community to help keep children safe. Kelli joined Caring for Kids in October 2024 and she is excited at the opportunity to work with children in need of permanency and believes that there is a home for every child. In her free time, Kelli enjoys cooking and walking her dog.

Fabi Esters

I graduated from the University of Akron in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in psychology. Over the past few years, I have worked in various roles at a local hospital, taking the lead both in patient care and administrative work. I come from a large tight-knit family, and I cherish spending time with them. I am passionate about contributing to the creation and care of families, especially when it comes to nurturing and supporting children. In my free time I love to travel with my husband and cuddling with my little dog.

The majority of my professional experience has been with a private nonprofit. I was there for 10 years as part of the licensing team and my focus was on foster parent recruitment & retention. During this time, I became a strong advocate in keeping siblings together and maintaining their bond.

I have a passion for helping youth realize they have the power to determine their future regardless of their past and circumstances in which they had no control over. I believe every child deserves love, support and an advocate to help them find their voice and to empower them to reach their full potential.

Rebecca earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Ohio University and became a Licensed Social Worker in 2016. She join Caring For Kids in 2019, serving as a Clinical Case Manager in the foster care department. Rebecca continued her education to earn her Master’s of Science in Social Work from The University of Louisville in 2020. In 2022, she transitioned to her role of Foster Care Supervisor. Rebecca has previous experience in behavioral health, group therapy, and working with children with special needs. She has training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and is a strong advocate for children and families involved in the child welfare system. Rebecca believes that each child deserves a safe, loving home and does everything within her power to support this goal.

Christin Bartunek, PCC-S

Christin holds a Master’s Degree in Clinical Counseling and has worked in the field of child welfare, trauma and adoption since 2000. She is a licensed professional clinical counselor and Ohio adoption assessor.

Christin’s responsibilities include assisting in the the day-to-day operations of Caring for Kids’ Columbus office, conducting home studies, teaching pre-service training, providing case management for foster placements as well as providing post-placement services for adoptive families. She is married and has two biological children and two adopted children.

Christine Sourek, MSW, LSW

Christine graduated from the Master of Science in Social Work program from Cleveland State University and is a licensed social worker. She previously received her Bachelors of Science in Early Childhood Education from Cleveland State University. She joined Caring For Kids in 2021, serving as Clinical Case Manager in the foster care department. In 2023, she transitioned to the role of Foster Care Supervisor. Christine has previous experience in early childhood mental health, school-based mental health and working with professionals in child care settings. She has training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Conscious Discipline, and Trust-Based Relational Interventions. Christine is also trained as an Ohio adoption assessor and is a coordinator for the Ohio public adoption program with Caring For Kids. Christine is passionate about the field of child welfare and is excited to be on this journey with the families and children she serves.

Sierra is very excited to be working at Caring For Kids and continuing her passion of aiding children and families. She graduated from the accelerated Master of Science in Social Work program from the University of Cincinnati and received her Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Ashland University. She is a Licensed Social Worker and plans to continue improving her licensure throughout her career. From part time jobs working with children in an after-school program and a daycare center to interning at a child welfare agency, Sierra is very dedicated to continuing to empower children and families.

Monica graduated from John Carroll University in 2016 with a Masters of Arts within the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program and became a Licensed Professional Counselor. Prior to becoming a Clinical Case Manager at Caring for Kids she worked as an intensive in-home therapist as well as provided behavioral health support within the school systems. Monica has a passion for working with at-risk youth and being an advocate for them and their foster families.

Bailey Nelson

Bailey graduated from the Ohio State University with a Bachelors of Science in Social Work in 2021. Bailey then went on to earn her LSW later that same year. While in college, she served as a student support specialist for grades K-12 between two school districts. Bailey has experience working with foster children ages 0-12. She is an advocate for underserved populations and believes in the importance of connection and permanency for all children. Bailey is beyond grateful for the opportunity to serve children and families, as she has aspired to be a foster care social worker since age 13.

Rebecca was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. She graduated from the University of Akron with a Bachelor’s Degree of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies, majoring in Sociology and Political Science with a minor in Criminology and Law Enforcement.
Prior to becoming an Intake Specialist with Caring for Kids, Rebecca worked in the field of Corrections. She has been a Case Manager for offenders, a Cognitive Behavioral Facilitator in a Halfway House, and a Therapeutic Behavioral Specialist for all ages.
In her spare time Rebecca cares for her many animals that include rats, mice, lizards, cats, crabs, and aquariums. Despite all of her children having at least four legs (or fins) she believes every child deserves to have a safe place they can call home, and is excited for the opportunity to help local families.

Miguel was born in Asuncion, Paraguay and adopted by loving parents in Stow, Ohio. Miguel has worked in the mental and behavioral health fields for over 10 years. He has worked in classrooms with nonverbal individuals with autism, and has been a Qualified Mental Health Specialist in Northeast Ohio. An Eagle Scout and avid painter, Miguel is excited to have the opportunity to help young people feel safe, seen and successful at Caring for Kids.

Amy has worked with children for the last 22 years as an elementary school teacher. She has had experience with many “at risk” children and always strived to be an advocate for them. She looks forward to transitioning from teaching into the world of adoption and foster care.

Amy will be working in an administrative capacity in the Caring for Kids Cuyahoga Falls office. She won’t be working directly with children but loves the idea that she is supporting those who are in that role.

Ashley has enjoyed holding various positions on the Caring for Kids team since 2019. Ashley’s current responsibilities include providing clinical case management, therapeutic behavioral health services, and individual counseling. Ashley is a proud co-founder of the agency’s “Expedition,” group therapy series. She also serves as a proud member on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee.

Ashley holds a Master of Social Work degree and graduate certificate in Clinical Social Work. In addition, Ashley is a licensed social worker and adoption assessor through the state of Ohio. She is passionate about advocating for children, while providing unconditional care and support. Ashley aspires to create a meaningful impact in the lives of the families and youth that she has the privilege of working with.

Tami has worked the last 5+ years as a direct service provider to victims of complex trauma circumstances. Tami believes intervention from the perspective of relationship is key in the prevention algorithm for youth. If we, as trusted adults, can circumvent adverse childhood experiences, children can grow and heal from hard places, giving them an opportunity to avoid unhealthy and problematic relationships in the future. Tami believes in a hopeful future for all children and is excited to continue growing professionally as a Clinical Case Manager here at CFK.

Amanda graduated from the University of Akron with a BA in Social Work. She has experience working with the geriatric population and children with autism and neurobehavioral challenges. Amanda has a passion for working with others and feels fulfilled when she can help and make a difference! Another piece of Amanda's heart is her son. She welcomed him into this world in May 2023! Danielle grew up in small town Norwalk, Ohio before moving to the Cleveland area for college. She graduated from Cleveland State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Multidisciplinary Studies, majoring in Psychology and Criminology with a minor in Sociology.

Prior to working at Caring For Kids, Danielle worked in an ABA educational setting as an Assistant Educational Coordinator working with children who have autism and developmental disabilities. She has always known that she wanted to work with children and is passionate about providing an educational, safe, and nurturing environment for them to reach their full potential.

Outside of work, Danielle enjoys spending time with her partner and 9-year-old German Shepherd mix. She loves cheesy reality TV, yoga and playing tennis.

Rebecca is a graduate student at Florida State University, obtaining her Master’s degree in Social Work. Rebecca attended Ohio State University as an undergrad and received her Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice. Rebecca recently moved back to Ohio after living in Florida for six years. Rebecca has previous experience in foster care as a case manager, community outreach specialist, and youth respite shelter staff. Rebecca has training in Trauma-Informed Social Work practices, Strength-Based interventions, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Rebecca believes all children deserve to thrive in a safe, caring, and loving home and strives to reach this goal daily. Katie holds a Master’s of Education at Kent State University in their Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. Katie’s experience revolves heavily around serving at-risk youth, individuals and their families in a variety of settings. Some of these include being a Family Advocate for Head Start and Early Head Start, the Resident/Child Advocate at a Domestic Violence Homeless Shelter, as well as a Behavioral Health Specialist for a local non-profit mental health agency. These roles have afforded her the opportunity to build a skill set that encompasses childhood trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD, family violence, parenting, behavioral concerns, as well as supporting children and families involved in the foster care system. She also has experience working with individuals of all ages navigating family dynamics and interpersonal relationships that impact their lives. Katie’s hobbies include hiking with her dog, gardening and reading.

Kaleigh graduated from Kent State University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies with a focus in Case Management. Kaleigh worked for over five years at a local public child welfare agency as an Ongoing Caseworker, New Hire Trainer, and at the counties Group Home. She graduated in 2019 from The University of Akron with a Masters in Social Work. During her internship for her Masters she was able to work directly with kinship families, foster parents, adoptive families, the Independent Living program, and help start a Group Home. Kaleigh is a licensed Social Worker and certified Adoption Assessor. Kaleigh joined the Caring for Kids team in May 2020 as part of the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Recruiter program.

Kaleigh has a passion for foster care and adoption and believes every child deserves permanent connections, a sense of identity, and to feel safe. Kaleigh loves animals, being active, cruises, and believes “knowledge is power”.

Breanna graduated from Kent State University in 2016 with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies. Breanna started out working in a daycare center taking care of children aged 1-12 years old and then became a preschool teacher. After a few years Breanna decided to change careers and to work in the mental health field. Breanna became a Qualified Mental Health Specialist and began working in children’s mental health. Breanna enjoys helping children/families meet their needs. Breanna is excited to join Caring for Kids and is ready to see what kind of impact she can make. When Breanna is not busy helping others she enjoys watching movies, spending time outdoors or crafting. Breanna also loves all kinds of animals including reptiles and snakes and has two pet cats and a huge goldfish.

Colette has been a Licensed Social Worker in the State of Ohio since 1995. After a few years of experience in residential treatment and school systems, she began writing home studies for foster care/adoptions in 2004. She joined Caring for Kids in 2018 through the recruiting and licensing departments.

Colette is married and has two children. She values the importance of being part of a permanent family and enjoys seeing connections that grow through the foster care/adoption experience.

She graduated from Kent State University with her Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education in 2016, and went on to teach Preschool for 3 years. After teaching, she worked in property management for 2 years. Although they are very different fields, Cassidy learned valuable skills from each, and hopes to bring that knowledge with her to Caring for Kids to help others in their journey toward family.

Abby LaCourt

Abby was born and raised in Wisconsin. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with minors in Sociology and Criminal Justice from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 2019. She moved to Ohio in 2021! Her most recent position before Caring for Kids was as a Cognitive Skills Specialist facilitating classes with adults in the criminal justice system in residential and non-residential settings. She does have experience working with kids as well, including experience in behavioral health, and working with adults and children with special needs. Adoption is near and dear to Abby’s heart since her family has multiple people who have been adopted, have adopted, and also who have placed children for adoption. She is very excited to be working here at Caring for Kids and hopes to gain skills and knowledge to be the best resource possible here in this position! And yes, she is a die-hard Packers fan. Go Pack go!

Michelle began her career working with children in 1995 as a Kindergarten teacher in Garfield Heights. In 1997, she began working as a preschool administrator and since then has fulfilled various roles over the last 25 years. She began working at Caring for Kids, Inc. in June of 2012.

Although her role does not involve working directly with children, Michelle enjoys attending events such as “My Time to Shine” and the fishing event we hold each year. She also enjoys providing support to our families and children through the finance and administrative departments.

Cherelle Brown

Cherelle Brown

Early on, after graduating high school Cherelle worked mostly customer service and administrative jobs. The past couple of years she has found interest in helping the community more, which led her to low-income housing. Cherelle worked at Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority where she helped clients with obtaining housing. She also worked for Alpha Phi Alpha Homes in low-income senior housing. Before this position, Cherelle was also a Property Manager in the Cleveland area.

She is the mother to a 4-year-old boy and a 2-year-old Mini Poodle. Cherelle enjoys spending time with her parents, siblings, niece, and nephews. Her hobbies include playing volleyball for her church, baking, exploring new trails with her dog, and traveling with her son. Their favorite place to fly or drive to is Charlotte, NC where some of Cherelle's siblings live.

Pat assumed the role of executive director in 2006. She works tenaciously to maintain the family-centered culture that the agency was founded upon and is dedicated to placing the best interest of each and every child Caring for Kids serves first. Pat holds a master’s degree and is a licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Ohio adoption assessor. She brings 15+ years of prior experience as a mental health counselor. Pat is a Trust-based Relational Intervention® (TBRI) practitioner. Pat and her husband have the great privilege of parenting two lovely daughters, one biological and one adopted. Pat describes the 2001 international adoption of her daughter as the life-changing event that unearthed her passion for finding permanent families for children in need.

After 15 years as an executive director for Caring for Kids, Pat took a step back from the directorship and is transitioning toward retirement. Pat has worked tenaciously to maintain the family-centered culture that the agency was founded upon. Kara earned her Bachelor’s in Human Development and Family Studies from Kent State University in 2021 and soon after found her love for social services as she volunteered her time at local agencies in support of her passions.

She became an Executive Assistant after graduating to build her skills on the social spectrum and adopted a love for reaching out to the community with an inspiration to spread awareness on important issues, which is ultimately what brought her into the Marketing and Communications role here at Caring for Kids.

She enjoys keeping an open mind to new ideas and an open door to communication to foster growth and kindness wherever she goes.

Tracy graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Akron in 1994 and is a licensed social worker and Ohio adoption assessor.

Throughout her career, Tracy has held a variety of positions. She has legally advocated for battered women, worked as a social worker for Akron Public Schools and has been a caseworker for at-risk teens. For eighteen years Tracy has worn many hats in the adoption field, working as an assessor, trainer, and caseworker.

She lives in the Akron area with her four wonderful children.

Amanda is the IT Administrative Assistant at CFK. She graduated from OSU with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art and Technology and has spent most of her career working in customer service roles. Amanda likes to play video games, talk with her friends, and cook in her free time. She has a cat named Tomo who she's hoping will warm up to the idea of having some furry siblings so she may achieve her dream of being a crazy cat lady.

Brittany comes from a background in the medical field, with the last 15 years spent working in administrative and clinical roles in healthcare. In 2017, she graduated from a local trade school with an Associate’s degree in science. Her previous experience, matched with her passion for helping others, serves as an amazing tool for this step in her career at Caring for Kids.

In her free time, Brittany prefers to spend time with her family. She has a niece and two nephews that hold a special place in her heart; if you know anything about Brittany it’s that her favorite title is “Auntie.”

Amanda grew up in Wadsworth, Ohio. She attended the University of Mount Union where she earned her Bachelor of Arts as an Intervention Specialist and Early Childhood education major. Amanda taught for 5 years and while during that time received her Master's in Education, got married and had her first son. Amanda now is working part time for Caring for Kids as an Administrative Assistant and is mom to two young boys at home. She loves hanging out with her family, siblings, and parents and watching sports. She is excited to be a small piece in helping families and children build and form loving relationships!

Karen returned to the work force in 2014 after enjoying her time raising her family for 18 years. She has many years of experience in the administrative field as well as actively coordinating and volunteering with the schools and sports teams where her sons were involved. Karen and her husband Barry have raised four boys and are blessed to now have a daughter-in-law and two beautiful granddaughters.
